THE BAND

Randy Oller

Band member #1
Band member #1

Artist’s Statement:

I’ve been playing the guitar since my teenage years and had the opportunity to perform with a band in local bars during my early 20s. However, this passion was put on hold as I focused on my full-time career and family responsibilities, and the band never quite took off.

Fortunately, I picked up the guitar again in the early 2010s, and alongside Tyler, we founded Whiskey Kronic.

To enhance my skills, I took eight years of guitar lessons from the local legend, Marvin Allen, and later enrolled at the Sonora Guitar Institute to deepen my understanding of the craft.

I genuinely enjoy performing in front of audiences whenever I can and always strive to deliver the best music possible.

Band member #4

Artist’s Statement:

Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, my early musical influences came from KTEL compilation vinyl records and the captivating voice of Dr. Don on AM radio. It wasn't until my teenage years that a friend introduced me to AC/DC’s Highway to Hell album, marking my first real encounter with rock music. While it wasn’t my favorite, I was immediately drawn to the band’s unapologetic rebelliousness, which resonated deeply with me.

As I continued my musical journey, another friend introduced me to my greatest vocal inspiration: the one and only Steve Perry. His incredible talent ignited a passion in me to emulate his sound, and I dedicated myself to honing my craft. Today, I consider myself a decent, albeit humble, imitation of Steve, but it took years of practice to get here.

I picked up the bass guitar at the age of 14 and joined a band. When our bass player—who was also a close friend—left to join a Christian rock band, it broke my heart. I remember crying over the loss. The guitarist, a dear friend to this day, encouraged me to start taking bass lessons in case we couldn’t find another bassist. That was in 1980, and since then, I’ve been playing bass and singing continuously.

The same friend who introduced me to Journey also introduced me to Geddy Lee of Rush, who became my biggest inspiration as both a bassist and vocalist. Analyzing Geddy’s bass and vocal parts reveals how deliberately they are constructed to facilitate singing and playing simultaneously, despite the complexity of the music. It became clear to me why he is so successful, and I have strived to emulate his approach.

One of the highlights of my career was my appearances on America’s Got Talent, Season 3 in 2008. I had the opportunity to take a photo with the late, legendary host of shock reality TV, Jerry Springer. Jerry was incredibly approachable, with a great personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He was always willing to laugh at himself and had an encouraging demeanor. He didn’t hesitate to take this photo with me, and I will always cherish that moment. Rest in peace, Jerry Springer.
